ECG and Cardiac Monitoring Billing

When you perform an electrocardiogram (ECG) in your office, you bill a global code (CPT 93000) that covers both the technical tracing and your professional interpretation. If you are only interpreting an ECG performed elsewhere, you bill CPT code 93010. Crucially, your documentation must include a separate, signed report with your findings to support the interpretation component.

Spirometry and Pulmonary Function Tests

Simple spirometry (CPT 94010) is a common test in internal medicine to evaluate conditions like asthma and COPD. Similar to ECGs, this code is global, covering the performance of the test and the interpretation. If billing for the global service, your note must include a formal interpretation of the results, not just the raw data from the machine.

Compliance and Credentialing: Ensure your office staff are properly trained to perform these tests according to clinical standards. Your practice and providers must also be properly credentialed with payers to provide these diagnostic services.
